School Improvement

The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement defines school improvement as a continuous process that runs on a five-year cycle. SHAPE American High School is currently in year four of the current five-year cycle. Our School Improvement Leadership Teams and faculty have worked closely to refine our school focus and commit all available resources to implementing a school-wide plan that supports our overarching student achievement goal.

SHAPE Mission

SHAPE American High School/Middle School's mission is to dedicate all of its resources to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and guidance needed to become productive members of a global society.

SHAPE American High School/Middle School is an international community in which all members embrace learning, value diversity, think critically, and are responsible, contributing members of a global society.

School Improvement Leadership Teams

Our current School Improvement Leadership Team plans and implements activities in support of the school improvement process. Teams include Staff Development, Strategies Implementation, Technology Implementation, Data Disaggregation and Communication and Awareness. Additional members of the leadership team include to co-leaders, our School Advisory Council Chairperson, and a student representative.

Student Performance Goal 1:

All students will increase their ability to evaluate what they read across the curriculum.

Essence: All students will improve their ability to evaluate what they read through the development of vocabulary across the curriculum.

Strategy 1: Building Vocabulary: Scholastic Red: Roots, Prefixes, Suffixes of Words

Strategy 2: SQ3R – Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review

Student Performance Goal 2:

All students will improve their analytical writing across the curriculum.

Essence: All students will be able to write an analysis of a text or process using correct grammar and punctuation.

Strategy 1: Six Traits+1 Writing

Strategy 2: WIC-R (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading)
