Transportation
By Train:
Traveling by train can get you just about anywhere that you want to go. Teens always take to the train to Brussels and continue on to Kinepolis. To do this, you must go to the nearest train station. We often go the Soignies since the price is less for a train ticket. But what if you are leaving from the Mons train station? First you would go to the ticket vendor and say “Brussels Centrale. Aller et retour.” “Aller” means one way, “Aller et Retour” means round trip. He would then charge you approximately 600bF for the ticket. Then there are signs all over the train station that tell you what train leaves at what time. You would look for your
desired destination and find the closest time that it will arrive in Mons. Next to your desired time and location it will say which track the train will be running on. You go to that track and wait until your train arrives. On your track there is a digital sign that says where the train is going. It’s that simple. Once you arrive in Brussels Centrale and you want to head strait for Kinepolis, follow the signs that say metro. Once you reach the metro part of the train station you have to pay 50bF for a one-way metro ticket. Only two Metros run, A and B. The metro to Kinepolis is A and you take it all the way to the town Hazel. The same goes for every city in Belgium. The most common places to go by train are Kinepolis/Brussels, Brugge, Tournai, Mons, Antwerp, and if you want to spend a little extra money, you can go
to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, or Paris, France.
Other places to go to by train are concerts. Belgium has so many concerts every year where all of your favorite bands play. To find out about certain concert dates you go on the Internet or you listen to the radio. You can also buy your tickets online or at a ticket vendor in Mons. There is usually a big concert once every three months. Another place to go by train instead of your parents are amusement parks. The most popular theme park is Six Flags Belgium. The park is only open from May until September. Tickets usually cost around $30 U.S. dollars or about 2500bF. There is also a really fun indoor Swimming Park that is open year round but you have to pay a separate entrance fee to get inside. Six Flags Belgium is one of the best theme parks in Europe. And one last idea if you are to travel by train is to go to Disneyland Paris. It is exactly identical to the other Disney theme parks and is a lot of fun to go to with a group of people.
By Bus:
Other methods of transportation are buses, but that is usually just to Chievres Air Base or to Mons. T
here is a bus stop in front of the clinic, which runs approximately every hour, to go to Cheivres Air Base. To go to Mons, there is a bus stop in front of the Shape teen center, which runs a quarter after each hour.

One Transportation Challenge:
One thing that most Americans are aggravated about is the fact that you must be 18 or older to drive a car. What they are not aware of, however, is that if you are 14 or older, you are allowed to drive mopeds or scooters. Mopeds are small motorbikes that are not as large as a regular motorcycle and that don’t go as fast but are very useful for
getting around the small Belgian towns. They are a lot of fun! A teen will never have to depend on their parents to take them anywhere because they will either have mopeds, trains or buses to get them where they want to go. For a small moped, you are not required to have a license, just a helmet. But for the more advanced types of mopeds, it is the law to take a class and get a license. Remember, although there are so drawbacks to living in Belgium if you look hard enough you will realize that you can work this drawback into an advantage.
