Gifted Education Update: With the start of school year 2004/2005 SHAPE will be offering an integrated “Gifted Education” program for identified middle school students. We will have a qualified Gifted & Talented Instructor assigned to work collaboratively with our Middle School Core (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, & Math) Instructors to identify students and provide appropriate and meaningful enrichment activities. We will continue to offer identified middle school students the opportunity to take advanced courses to include Algebra, Foreign Language, and Computer Applications. For students in grades 9 through 12, they will continue to have an opportunity to take a rigorous selection of course to include Honors and Advanced Placement courses. This Spring (May 2004) we will begin to work with all teachers in identifying differentiated instructional strategies in order to best meet the needs of all identified “gifted” students to ensure that they have challenging options as well as specialized assistance. We will take measures to review all available student data to include teacher recommendations and begin to identify all students whose parents agree to their being declared "Gifted" in any of the four core ((Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, & Math) subject areas.
