Creative Connections is a six-day advanced visual and performing arts activity for 150 high school students exhibiting talent and interest in the arts. The basic objective of this activity is to provide students fine arts experiences beyond what is available in local schools.
Each year, ten classes are offered with 15 students assigned to each class. An expert instructor and an assistant teach each class. Stateside and European experts are contracted to teach along with DoDDS teachers. Courses include classes in dance, show choir, strings, music composition, multidimensional drawing, printmaking, sculpture, oil pastels, digital art, and video production. Instruction culminates with an art exhibition and stage show on the last evening. The final exhibition and performance begins at 1800 on Thursday, February 12, are open to the public.

Application Guidelines
Students should:
- Read this information letter and the course descriptions for Creative Connections 2009.
- Type all information on the Creative Connections Student Application Form. Forward the completed form to the Creative Connections POC.
- Students can only apply for 1st and 2nd choices for Visual Arts or Performing Arts (not both) on one form. If a student wishes to apply for other PA or VA classes, a separate application must be submitted. (A different login name should be entered, such as “firstname.lastname2”.)
- Make every effort to prepare detailed and well-written paragraphs. These will be considered seriously when your application is reviewed. The application process is competitive so care must be taken to present a clear picture of skills and experiences.
- Contact a teacher/instructor who is familiar with your work to write a recommendation. Give them the information in Part I of the Teacher Recommendation Form. Give them the electronic form so they can type the recommendation responses. They should compete, print, sign, and give to the school Creative Connections POC. This recommendation is very important to your application. New this year: Performing Arts applicants should get another recommendation for the Second Choice class.
- Print a copy of the Signature Page. Obtain the required signatures and give the completed page to your school Creative Connections POC.
- Visual Arts applicants must submit a sample of your artwork. The work must be observational work (figure, portrait, or object). The artwork must be submitted on letter size paper. The work must be observational (figure, portrait, or object) and submitted with your application. Please put student name and school on artwork.
- Video applicants must submit a video sample to the school video teacher for upload to the ftp site. Directions are provided on the Creative Connections website.
- The Art Teacher must receive the application packet by November 29, 2008.
